Soren Kirkegaard in Garden of the Royal Library

Philosopher Søren Kierkegaard is among the most famous Danes in world history. He lived from 1813 to 1855. He is probably best known for a number of quotes, including: “Life must be understood backwards, but must be lived forwards.” Kierkegaard is buried at Assistens Cemetery in Copenhagen’s Nørrebro. Walk of Fame on Istedgade at Vesterbro

Istedgade in Vesterbro is known by most people in Denmark. This is where pornography was legalized in 1969. For a long time, the street was almost exclusively strip clubs and porn shops. It was one of Copenhagen’s “Red Light Districts.” Since then, it has transformed into a trendy urban area in Denmark’s capital. But now the street also has its own Walk of Fame. I 2025, a Walk of Fame was inaugurated, consisting of honorary portraits of people who have lived a life involving drugs, homelessness, and sex work in the neighborhood, but have found a different path, and are now part of the Gadens Stemmer project, which organizes city…

On Copenhagen’s Nørrebro, there is a very special place. You can find Superkilen in the Mimersgade neighborhood, close to Nørrebrogade. The park opened in 2012. The park celebrates Nørrebro’s ethnic diversity and is filled with things from different parts of the world, thus representing the more than 50 nationalities that live in Nørrebro. It is a tribute to diversity. Among other things, you will find a boxing ring from Thailand, swings from Iraq, a Moroccan fountain, a black octopus playground from Japan, a donut-shaped sign from the USA, and many other things from…

    The heart of Vesterbro

If you’re looking for an alternative place to visit in Denmark’s capital, it’s a great idea to stop by the heart of Vesterbro, which you can see at the corner of Viktoriagade & Abel Cathrines Gade in inner Vesterbro. In the old days, the corner was called ‘Trekanten’ and there was a gas station where the sculpture stands today. In the early 1990s, the local artist Finn Christiansen, who still lives in the area, created the heart. He did this without permission, but because he felt that the then very rough neighborhood needed a heart. The heart remains an integral part of Vesterbro and is used by locals to send…

    Cannonball in Crocodile Street

Denmark’s capital is filled with small and interesting places, Hitten Gems, that you should experience. No fewer than 13,000 shells and fire rockets hit the city. It was the British who attacked Copenhagen as part of the Napoleonic Wars. Denmark tried to remain neutral but was forced into the alliance between France and Russia, and thus an economic blockade of Great Britain.
