Gråbrødretorv (Greyfriars Square)
Gråbrødretorv is a historic urban square in the heart of Copenhagen’s Old Town, just a short walk from both Strøget and Købmagergade.
The square has a somewhat hidden location. The square is characterized by colorful house fronts and dominated by a large plane tree.
Gråbrødretorv (Greyfriars Square) takes name from a Franciscan friary, which was established at the site in 1238.
On 7 June 1968 it became car-free as part of first expansion of the pedestrian zone around Strøget;
Today, it’s a peaceful pedestrian oasis where locals and visitors gather at outdoor cafés and restaurants.
