Shipyard worker af Christianshavn

At the old working class neighborhood Christianshavn you can visit a sculpture of a B&W shipyard worker in a boiler suit. A sculpture created by the artist Jens Galschiøt.

The initiative for the sculpture comes from the Association of B&W Workers Christianshavns Kanal, which has been working on the project for several years. B&W (Burmeister & Wains Maskin- og Skibsbyggeri A/S) had over 8,000 employees during periods in the 1960s and 1970s, which influenced Christianhavn. The shipyard was located on Refshaleøen from 1872 to 1996, after which it went bankrupt.
